Anne was born in Portland, Oregon, on July 11, 1913, the only daughter of Joseph Kostrick of Petrinja, Croatia and Poranka Sadowa of Ruthenia, Galicia, now part of Poland. She had other siblings that did not survive infancy. Anne’s mother perished as a result of the great 1918 flu epidemic . She was raised by Joseph and then Katerina, when Joseph remarried in 1921. Anne lived in Akron, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan and married Harold Holland in 1940. They lived in Huntington Woods until 1965 when they moved to Ann Arbor. Anne attended the Detroit School of Commerce in a business curriculum. She was a proficient typist and could take shorthand expertly. Anne also learned her accounting and bookkeeping skills there. Anne worked as a bookkeeper most of her life. She had been employed by a local Detroit bank as a teller during the depression and later worked as a secretary. She was the company bookkeeper for U. S. Tool Manufacturing for many years before leaving her job to raise her family. Later, Anne worked as a bookkeeper for the University of Michigan Payroll Office. She retired in 1985. Anne is survived by her daughters, Janet Anne (Tarolli)of Chelsea and Jean Elinor (Rizor Walke) of Ann Arbor, grandsons James Rizor of Saline, Michael Tarolli of Jackson and Steven Tarolli of Clawson. Her husband of 50 years of marriage, Harold Ferguson Holland, preceded her in death in 1991. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 from 5 - 8pm and on Thursday from 9:00 until time of service at 10:00am at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice in her honor.
