Aleksei Makovik, born on March 5, 2003, passed away tragically on June 8, 2024, after his life was cut short due to an accident. Aleksei, known to many as a smart, ambitious, and thoughtful young man, touched the lives of everyone who knew him with his creativity and passion for acting.
Aleksei was a 2021 graduate of Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, where he found his love for theater. It was during his freshman year, after watching Pioneer Theatre Guild’s performance of “In The Heights,” that Aleksei realized his calling. He immersed himself in the world of theater, taking on various roles and challenges, and quickly became a cherished member of the theater community.
Aleksei's commitment to the craft was unwavering. From overcoming stage fright to embracing the immense dedication required for rehearsals, Aleksei demonstrated an extraordinary work ethic and a deep passion for performing. His roles included Demetrius in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and the Stage Manager in Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town,” where his talent for storytelling shone brightly.
In addition to his theatrical endeavors, Aleksei was a diligent student with a 3.773 GPA and had aspirations of attending a prestigious performing arts school. He aimed to transition from theater to the silver screen, with dreams of studying at Juilliard, UCLA, or Tisch School of the Arts. Recently, he began his studies at Washtenaw Community College, continuing his pursuit of excellence in education, with the ultimate goal to transfer to University of Michigan.
Aleksei’s love for animals, his thoughtful nature, and his ambition were evident in all aspects of his life. Aleksei was baptized at St. Vladimir Orthodox Church in Ann Arbor. His creativity and determination left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Aleksei is survived by his loving mother, Marina Makovik, his sister, Anya Makovik, and a community of friends and fellow actors who will deeply miss his presence. He is predeceased by his father, Andrei Makovik.
Visitation for Aleksei will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan. His funeral service will follow at 4:30 PM at St. Vladimir Orthodox Church, 9900 Jackson Rd, Dexter, Michigan. Aleksei will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery, 415 Observatory St, Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a burial service at 6:00 PM. A reception to celebrate his life will be held at the home of Ksenia & Vitaliy, 6107 Green Mountain Circle, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
