Sharon E. Dunbar

Sharon Eileen Cory was born on September 4, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ralph and Neva (Brown) Cory. She grew up with two older brothers, John and Pat. She graduated from Bondurant-Farrar High School in 1962 and married her high school sweetheart, William “Bill” Garner Dunbar Jr., on April 30, 1965 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Together they raised four children in a loving home filled with humor and adventure. She was a marvelous wife, mother, grandma, aunt, and sister.

Sharon loved gardening in her many flowerbeds, collecting nativity sets, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her beloved granddaughters. She enjoyed taking prairie walks with her adoring husband, Bill, and delighted in identifying flowers and butterflies. She loved her family unconditionally and provided them with constant love and support. Sharon was also a lifetime member of St. Mary-Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bill; brother, Pat; children, Kenny (Carol) Dunbar, Kathy (Chuck) Bickel, Kris (Denis LeRoy) Sturtz, and Kelly Dunbar; granddaughters, Cassandra McMullen, Madeline McMullen, Victoria McMullen, Alexandria Sturtz, and Miranda Sturtz; beloved nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Neva Cory; brother, John Cory; and grandson, Chauncy Dunbar.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 pm with Rosary following. Funeral services will take place on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 10:30 am. Both will be held at St. Mary-Holy Cross Catholic Church in Elkhart, IA. Memorials may be directed to a food bank of your choice in her memory.
