Savannah Mikaila Edwards, 24, returned to her Heavenly father’s arms on Friday, July 16, 2021, following a four-month battle with a late-stage glioblastoma brain tumor. She passed away restfully in her mother’s Ankeny, IA home, as her family and closest friends provided her with as much comfort as humanly possible in her final hours.
Savannah’s time may have been cut short, but she never failed to make use of that time and would encourage us all to do the same. She loved her family beyond any measure and was sure to devote most of her time to anything involving them-particularly the many years she spent with her father in Seattle caring for him. She deeply enjoyed her time with her fiancé, Joe Fisher. Anybody that knew them, quickly realized their love was special; one for the ages. Together they lived out their love story to the fullest by loving each other deeply, selflessly, and unconditionally. Their love is a love that we all can learn from and strive towards.
Whether with family or not, food and competition was the other place you could find Savannah. Perhaps a walking taco at the softball game where she cheered on her sisters? Or maybe just a walk down the candy aisle to find something that everyone in the house will need to “try a bite” of later on, no matter the scene, if Savannah was there-you were smiling, and she was too. Even down to our last days with Savannah, we were able to witness such a compassionate and beautiful soul that this girl was graciously given.
Left to cherish her memory are her fiancé, Joe Fisher; parents, Bobby Edwards and Emily Mangarella; siblings, Demi, Chase, Tristan, Madison, and Alee Edwards; and many extended family and friends.
A visitation for Savannah will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 11-1 followed by a service at 1 pm at the Ankeny Funeral Home with a burial at Oralabor Cemetery. The next day, Sunday, July 25, 2021 will be a “Celebration of Life” from 2-5pm at the Hawkeye Park in Ankeny. We will be carrying on Savannah’s legacy by gathering her family and friends for food, competition, and more opportunities to smile and spread love.
