Robert William Spooner

Robert Spooner, 86, passed away December 5, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W. First St. Ankeny, IA 50021). A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at the Funeral Home. Casual attire is requested for the services by the family.

Robert was born September 9, 1930, in Ankeny to Marion and Lucille (Shellhart) Spooner. He graduated from Bondurant High School in 1948. Robert was united in marriage to Madeline Blakley on October 17, 1951 in Johnston, IA. Robert was a jack of many trades, he farmed, worked as a carpenter and also an equipment operator; he worked for Elview Construction and Polk County Public Works.

Robert enjoyed playing in softball and pool leagues in his free time. He also liked watching sports on TV and going to draft horse pulling competitions. Robert especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in sports.

Left to cherish in his memory are Robert’s wife of 65 years, Madeline; children: Robert (Jeannie) Spooner, Russell (Dianna) Spooner, Debra Spooner, Rebecca (Fred) Allgood, and Roger Spooner; grandchildren: David Spooner, Shane Spooner, Wyatt Spooner, Jessica Spooner and one sister, Barbara Duncan. He is preceded in death by his parents.
