Robert "Bob" Betts

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 21, 2016, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, 204 SW Walnut St. with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday at Ankeny Funeral Home.

Robert Dean Betts was born March 21, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa to Dean and Darleen (Wakefield) Betts. He grew up in Ankeny and was a graduate of Ankeny High School with the class of 1977. Following graduation, Bob achieved two bachelors degrees from Grandview College. Bob was a faithful lifelong member of the Ankeny First United Methodist Church where he was baptized and confirmed. His strong faith led him to serve on the church marketing ministries team to promote many church missions and functions. Bob was also a member of the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce, Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, and the Ankeny Golf and Country Club.

Bob owned a public relations business specializing in healthcare. In addition to being his career, he also saw this as a way to live out his faith by helping people find the healthcare they need. Bob also helped underprivileged children in the local elementary schools. He enjoyed listening to 60’s and 70’s music, was known as an amateur meteorologist, and had a passion for being around people and helping them any way he could. Most of all, Bob was a loving brother, uncle and devoted son who cared for his mother, Darleen until she passed away in October 2016. Bob was a man with a big heart, kind soul, and was loved and treasured by his family and friends who will deeply miss him.

Bob is survived by his sister, Angela Rubino and niece, Sophia . He was preceded in death by his parents.
