Norman Dale Pollock was born December 9, 1926, in Dubuque, Iowa to Dale and Margaret (Hannasch) Pollock. He grew up in Spirit Lake, Iowa where he received his education. Following graduation, Norman enlisted and proudly served during WWII in the United States Army as a Corporal. During his time in the Army, Norman was stationed in the Philippines. When Norman returned home he went to Iowa State University. He went on a trip to Marshalltown with a roommate and went on a date with his roommate’s sister, Vivian Katherine Youker. The couple was a perfect match and were together for over 65 years. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1949; making their home in Waterloo and Ankeny while being blessed with three children, Marcia, Mark and Matt.
Norman made his career as an engineer with the local phone company, and also volunteered as a driver for Living History Farms during retirement. The couple were also faithful members of the Ankeny United Church of Christ.
Norman enjoyed sailing, wind surfing, hunting with his dog, Annie, woodworking, leather work, playing cards and games, and traveling extensively. He traveled to all 50 U.S. States and internationally; with a special interest in Scotland. Most of all, Norman treasured spending time with Vivian, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who all held a special place in his heart.
Norman is survived by his children, Marcia (Stephen) Baker, Mark (Diane) Pollock, and Matthew (Vicki) Pollock; grandchildren, Heather Bechtel, Allison Baker, Julie Baker, Christopher (Beth) Pollock, Seth (Jamie Lynn) Pollock, and Sierra (Joshua) Swanson; great-grandchildren, Austin Bechtel, Sarah Bechtel, Carter Bechtel, Trevor Benton, Cole Benton, Lexie Benton, Nicholas Swanson, Elizabeth Swanson, Mathew Swanson, Nora Pollock, Kaelynn Pollock, and Karley Pollock; siblings, Willis Pollock and Phyllis Goodall; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
