A visitation for Mickey will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 701 E 1st Street, Ankeny, Iowa 50021. On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, a funeral will take place at Cornerstone Baptist at 5:00 PM. The burial of cremated remains will be at a later date.
On May 11, 1952, Mickey was born in Hartsville, South Carolina, to James and Nira Morrison Barfield. She loved cooking and baking, walking with friends, and doing crossword puzzles. Her most cherished memories included spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. One of the great things about grandma Mickey was that she wanted to buy everything on her grandkid's Christmas lists. Once they caught on to this, their lists grew longer and longer, but she would never say "NO." It made her so happy to give them everything they asked for.
Mickey was involved in many church activities and bible studies; she was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she taught her beloved children Sunday school. She was also a Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society) member. In 1970 she received the John Philip Sousa Band Award, recognizing her superior musicianship in saxophone. She attended Francis Marion University (Florence, SC) and Iowa Methodist School of Technology (Des Moines, IA). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology with a 4.0 GPA in the summer of 1994. She worked at Iowa Methodist Medical Center as a Medical Technologist in the Blood Bank Lab, where she retired in 2016.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Clyde Wesley Spivey of Ankeny; son, Brian (Natalie) Spivey of Rosamond, CA; daughter, Jennifer Wiese of Ankeny; grandchildren, Ryan and Kylee Wiese of Ankeny, Maya and Hannah Spivey of Rosamond, CA; sister-in-law, Melissa Barfield of Hartsville, SC; brother-in-law, George Blackwell of Hartsville, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mickey was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Peggy Blackwell; brother, Murray (Bucky) Barfield; and In-laws, James and Mary Spivey.
