Mary Ann (Moynagh) Brune, 91, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2023. A Mass of Christian burial will be at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny on Tuesday, January 31 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be held at 9:30 prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, KS.
Mary Ann was born on November 20, 1931, in Seneca, KS to Edward and Marie Moynagh. She graduated from St. Mary High School in St. Benedict, KS, attended St. Mary College in Leavenworth, KS, and graduated with an RN degree from St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS. In 1957, she married Dr. Harold E. Brune and moved to Ankeny, IA in 1972. She was a longtime member of OLIH Church. In 1988, she returned to college and graduated from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, IL with a BS degree in Health Arts and Sciences and an MS degree in Health Care Administration. Mary Ann retired from Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston, IA as Staff Development Coordinator in 1992. She also was an instructor at DMACC.
Her hobbies and interests included bicycling, camping, traveling, fishing, crocheting, and cooking. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. She and Harold took pride in attending their graduations, sports, and musical events. Mary Ann enjoyed supporting Iowa State Cyclone athletics and watching the Kansas City Chiefs. She also enjoyed the companionship of her family’s dogs. Faith, Family, and Friends are the three words that best describe Mary Ann.
Mary Ann is survived by her son Mike (Carolyn) Brune of Mundelein, IL; her daughters Mary (Lee) Longnecker of Ankeny, IA, and Patricia Williamson of Ankeny, IA; her grandchildren Austin Longnecker of Ames, IA, Alex Longnecker of New York, NY, Alyssa (Mitch) Amundson of Ankeny, IA, Nate (Erin) Brune of Edgewater, CO, and Nick Brune of Chicago, IL; her brothers Jim (Marilyn) Moynagh of Hiawatha, KS, and Pat (Jane) Moynagh of Krum, TX; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Brune, her parents Edward and Marie Moynagh, and her sister Beth Playfair.
