Luz Esther Erikson, age 23, of Polk City, Iowa died by suicide on Monday, June 20, 2022, at her home in Polk City. A visitation will take place at the Ankeny Funeral Home on Sunday, June 26th from 5 - 7 p.m. A service will be the following day at Lutheran Church of Hope in Ankeny at 10:30 a.m.
Luz was born on November 18, 1998, in Colombia. She loved to dance and had a real knack for fashion. Luz was a unique young woman and was extremely artistic. She had a great sense of humor, enjoyed traveling, working with children, and cherished animals. Luz graduated from North Polk High School and was currently working with preschool kids at the Tender Years Daycare & Learning Center in Polk City.
Luz was very passionate about human rights and had a strong feeling toward social work and helping others. Even in her death, she will help those that are suffering find peace and comfort.
Left to cherish her memory include her parents, John and Karen Erikson; siblings, Vanessa (Nathan) Reising, Jack Erikson, Zerfe Erikson, Andres Erikson, David Romero Avila, and Dario Romero Avila; grandparents, Steven, and Marlys Ruth; nephew, Lawrence Reising; aunts and uncles, Kiirstin (John) McGraw, Kendra (David) Baxter, Vicki (Darryl) Johnson, Robert (Janelle) Erikson, Jr., and Jolynn (Donald) Olson; and many cousins. Luz was preceded in death by her birth parents, Carlos Julio Romero Amaya and Luz Clara Avila Sanchez.
