Kay M. Bower

Kay was born May 30, 1912 in Galesburg, IL to Edger and Maude Clay. She lived in Wisconsin and Chicago before moving to Ankeny in 1950. She and her husband Jim, owned and operated the Ankeny Variety and Hardware Store, closing it in 1964. Kay worked for Allied Construction Services and later Younkers Dept. Store at Merle Hay, IRS, Wal Mart, and the Ankeny YMCA.

She was a member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church, Ankeny Unity Club, the Federation Women’s Club, the Penguins at YMCA, the Historical Society, United Methodist Women and the Martha Circle. Kay enjoyed traveling with her sister Alyce.

Kay is survived by her son, Tom and his wife, Jeanette; three grandchildren, Doug, Mike, and Kristen; and three great-grandchildren, Gage, Shelby and Hayden.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim; sister, Alyce; and three brothers, Osbert, Edward, and Millard.
