Jeffery Wayne Hill was born In Des Moines, Iowa on April 17, 1973, to Steven and Suzanne Hill, just a week after the April 10th blizzard. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines in 1992 and worked in various retail, manufacturing and state jobs throughout his career. Jeff enjoyed traveling especially with his dad who was an over the road truck driver, once stopping in San Francisco just to get some sour dough bread.
During his childhood, Jeff spent many summers staying on his great-uncle’s farm and having adventures with his cousin Paul. Uncle Richard and Aunt Sheila had their hands full with their exploits which included trying to ride cows. Jeff also liked to tease his sisters by tying their Barbies to the top of his Tonka Winnebago Camper and rolling it down a hill.
Jeff was a great cook and often called relatives and friends to discuss recipes. Anthony relates that he really didn’t eat fish until Jeff prepared it expertly. Jeff loved to garden. His tomatoes and peppers were the envy of the neighborhood and with their fruits he made salsa which was gifted to friends, family, and neighbors. He loved flowers and honored his Grandpa Sager by planting marigolds each year. Jeff delighted in feeding the birds and squirrels in their yard, especially his squirrels which he knew individually.
Jeff is survived by his partner, Anthony Gay of Ankeny, their dog Boomer; his mother, Suzanne Hutton of Ankeny; sisters, Heather (Chris) Maland of Ankeny and Kimber (Michael) Schneider of Castle Rock, Colorado. Jeff was loved by his nephews and nieces, great-niece and nephew, cousins, aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his father, Steven Hill; step-father, Charles Hutton, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League, 5452 NE 22nd St, Des Moines, IA 50313 in loving memory of Jeff.
