Calvin married Elva Ruby Laucamp on August 28, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They shared 64 years together until Elva's death in 2014. Together they raised six children.
Calvin served his country in the Army from October 1946 to February 1948 with the 580th Engineer Service Company at Fort Richardson, Alaska. After serving in the Army, he attended a telephone technical school and started work at the West Branch (IA) telephone company. In 1951, the family moved to Woolstock, Iowa where he worked as the manager of the Woolstock Mutual Telephone Association from 1951 until his retirement in 1992.
He served as the Woolstock City Treasurer from 1954 to 1992, volunteered with the Woolstock Fire Department, and served on the board of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Calvin was also a member of the American Legion Post #553 and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ankeny, Iowa.
In his free time Calvin was an avid reader, and enjoyed bowling, golf, wood working, and the cats.
Calvin is survived by his sons, Calvin Jr. (Joyce) of Clover, SC; Bruce (Patti) of Kennebunk, ME; Mervin (Deb) of Clive, IA; daughters, Colleen of Bondurant, IA; Becky (Bill) Sponsler of Indianola, IA; and daughter-in-law, Cindy (Mark) Anderson of Waukee, IA; 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Stuber of Winthrop, MN; Carrollynn Rathmann of Gibbon, MN and Margaret Lund of New Ulm, MN; and brother, Bill (Diane) Anderson of Blaine, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Mark; one brother, and seven sisters.
No services are planned at this time. Burial of Calvin's cremated remains will be held at a later date at the French Church Cemetery in Woolstock, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ankeny or the Bondurant Public Library.
