A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2015, at Ankeny Funeral Home with burial to follow at Oralabor Cemetery in Ankeny. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Barbara Lynn Bachand was born April 23, 1954, in Sturgis, South Dakota to Donald and Lianne Bachand (Kammerer). She grew up and received her education from Sturgis Brown High School, and went on to complete her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in History and English at South Dakota State University graduating in 1976.
Barb began her career working at Ford in the collections department before taking a position as a branch vice president at a savings bank. She later made her career with FDR in the Information Technology department. She worked part time for the Muscular Dystrophy Association until her retirement.
Barb was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jerald James Schipper on June 1, 2007, and the couple made their home in Ankeny. Barb was an avid gardener, earning her Master Gardener title and took great pride in all the flowers she grew. She also enjoyed playing Bridge and earned the honor of “Life Master”. Most of all, Barb loved spending time with Jerry, her children, and grandchildren who all held a special place in her heart.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Jerry Schipper; son, Andrew Czerwinski; step-children, Richard (Andrea) Schipper, Patrick Schipper, and Carrie (Bret) Kurtz; grandchildren, Dora Shaffer, Malory Schipper, Matthew Schipper, Samantha (Beau) Admire, Gabby Schipper, Aaron Kurtz, Paige Kurtz and Taylor Kurtz; and great-grandson, Remmington Admire. Barb is also survived by her siblings, Don (Sandi) Bachand, Hunter (Linda) Bachand, Bryan (Julie) Bachand, and Lynn (John) Barbier; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Lianne Bachand; and grandparents, Andrew and Germani Bachand and Joseph and Kathryn Kammerer.
