Monica was the sweetest, nicest woman I ever knew. I wish I had known of her death in time to attend her service. My condolences, Patricia and Colette and all of your family. You were fortunate to have her.

How were we supposed to know when we were little girls that our mom was our guardian angel?

She watched over and guided us through life, saying prayers as often as needed to make sure no harm came our way.

She taught us the values of life: patience, understanding, and kindness in her special way that we now hold so dear.

Moms do whatever they can to help their children grow and then smile with pride when they do well in their life's challenges.

Now that we are older and are mothers of our own children, we do appreciate and understand the value of a home you have passed on.

Thanks, for the life you've given to us so unselfishly. Your love, dedication, and loyalty to our family has meant so much. Because of this love, we have our own happy families today.

Although you will no longer be with us, your new family in heaven will be welcoming you with open arms. We may call on you often for spiritual comfort to face the struggles awaiting us. But as always, the shining example you set, will keep us on the right path.

Please pray for us, mom, in that special way you do.

I am unable to attend the service today so I have asked my brother to read this on my behalf. Although I am not here physically, my heart and soul are here with you all as we mourn the passing of one exceptional woman. If there are saints walking around in this world today, she was certainly one of them. For there was no one I knew who was more loving and generous than she.
My aunt Monica was a part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. Always there with an easy smile and a big warm hug. I never heard her say a bad word about anyone. The worst thing I ever heard her call someone was a "puddin head," and if she really wanted to amp things up, they would be a "bumhead." She loved family gatherings and would cook prodigiously for them, jellos, sweet potatoes (with marshmallows, of course), and always at least three different kinds of pies. As kids, we would act out and pull the usual juvenile pranks. While the rest of the adults in the room would like to slap us upside the head, she would totally disarm you by saying something like, "What are you doing there babyheart?" She made you want to be a better person because you didn't want to disappoint her. Although she had many disappointments and real tragedies in her life, she never complained or fell into self pity. All her trials were handled with dignity and grace. When others were facing difficulties or sickness, she was there to help out and provide support. When my mother was gravely ill she was there at the bedside with her love, prayers, and encouragement. My mother and she were always very close and I don't know if my mom would have made it without her and going forward I am sure she will be lost without her.
The last year and a half, as both of them began to fail in health, I would bring my mom to visit her and needless to say it was the highlight of my mom's week. Monica was the one who kept in touch with everyone and would keep us up to date on what was going on. She was the conduit for the family. Often, I would get them to talk about growing up on the farm and their memories of the large family life that they shared. Between the two of them, they could fill in the blanks and paint a colorful picture of those childhood days. Grandpa had encouraged them all to play an instrument and Monica played the saxophone. I asked her if she stillplayed and she pulled an old saxophone out of its case and played us a few tunes. It was glorious.
Her very special music and spirit are with us today even as we lay her body to rest, reminding us to be kind, thoughtful and loving, and that is her gift to us. Love you, and love you, babyhearts.

My grandma was the most loving, caring and loyal person to her family, friends and her church. I'm going to miss her and the stories she would tell of her and grandpa living in South Dakota and eventually California. Her soft words and gentle touch will be missed by my family and everyone who came in contact with her. On February 22, 2011, God called for his Angel to come home. I love you grandma all the way up to the sky.

I had the privilage of being Monica's first granddaughter. I actually was lucky to give my grandma a few "firsts" in her life. I gave birth to her first great grandchild Damien, and 9 years later I gave birth to grandmas first great granddaughter Destiny. I know these were very joyous, precious moments in her life that I will never forget. Grandma I thank you for the women that you were and for the women that I've become because of you. I love you very much grandma and I'll miss you even more.

What I will never forget about my Great Grandma is she always called me Owen Michael. When I was little, I remember coming down to visit with Great Grandma and we used to have ice cream together and talk about my baseball and school. I am really going to miss my Great Grandma.

I can’t even express how much my grandma meant to me and how much I will miss her.  There were so many things she did to help me and show her love for me.  From letting me and baby Owen stay with her when I needed help, to always wanting to know how my boys were doing in there sports and always making it a point to call me every year and sing  “Happy Birthday”  to me. Grandma was one of the first people I told on Christmas Eve that I was expecting a baby.  She was so very excited for me and although she will not be here to meet her new great grandbaby, I believe she will be its guardian angel .  She was truly one of the greatest grandmas a person could ever have .  I know the caring and nurturing person I am today is due to the example she showed me through life.  I look forward to the day when I will see you again and walk beside you in heaven.

Noodles, Homework, Homework while secretly watching TV. , talking about music.  She really loved Hawaii.  My favorite memory is of me and her delivering Avon after school. I’m glad I got to play music with her before she became to ill.  I hope I see you again Great Grandma, but not to soon.

Great Grandma loved me and my brother very very much.  She would tell me everytime she saw me and when we would talk on the phone.  She loved us all the way up to the sky........  Cody(3) & Levi(1)Blair.....

I had the privilege of living and caring for my grandmother for the last 2 1/2 years. I remember telling my husband Ray after we moved in, that living with grandma brought me a sense of peace. To all of us, my grandma was a saint. Even with all her selfless acts of kindness she showed on a daily basis or the achievements she reached, I believe there is one that stands out above all the rest. She raised two of the most talented, beautiful, smart, independent and loving daughters possible. And although you are gone now and watching over us from above, I want to Thank You for leaving us in the best possible guiding hands. My mom Patricia’s and my Aunt Colette‘s. Aunt Monica was not only beautiful on the outside, but so beautiful on the inside.  We all knew we were loved by Monica, because she so openly told us! I loved her so very much.  I remember her and Marshall visiting the farm and as kids we would prepare ourselves for the barrage of kisses and hugs from Aunt Monica...a memory all of the Beresford Lyle kids treasure to this day. She always looked and smelled so good! For us girls she would always treat us with samples of her Avon lipstick and perfume, we were Princesses..at least for that day :)
To her daughters, Patricia and Collette, her grandkids and great grandkids, I offer my deepest sympathy.  As Grandma myself to 8 wonderful grandkids and 4 step grandkids, I call tell Monica's grandkids, there really isn't a deeper love than what a Grandma has for her grandkids.
