Gail Marie Karjala, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with the Lord at the age of 80 on March 15, 2025 in Anaheim, California. She was born on June 10, 1944, in New York, to Frank Carvalho and Margaret Oliveira.
Gail's life was marked by love, faith, and dedication to her family. In 1962, she met the love of her life, Lee R. Karjala, at "grad night" for Anaheim High School. The two married in 1965, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 59 years. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including three children: Sherie Gwynn, Ken Karjala, and Mike Karjala.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Carvalho and Margaret Oliveira, but her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband, Lee; daughter, Sherie Gwynn; sons, Ken Karjala and Mike Karjala; five grandchildren: Cassandra Carlos, Tiffanie Casillas, Brianna Baumgartner, Christian Karjala, and Aaron Casillas; and three great-grandchildren: Willow Baumgartner, Hazel Baumgartner, and Elora Carlos.
In 1973, Gail and Lee took a bold step to follow their dreams, combining their savings to start their own photography studio, where Lee pursued his passion for photography. Gail served as the co-owner and office manager for 26 years, working tirelessly alongside her husband. Her intelligence, humor, and love for her family were evident in everything she did.
Gail was known for her vibrant personality and loving spirit. She had a great sense of humor, was sharp and discerning, and deeply devoted to her faith. She loved decorating their home for every season and holiday, and she enjoyed painting statuary, adding her personal touch to everything she did.
Those who knew Gail will always remember her as a woman of strong convictions, a loving mother and grandmother, and a loyal wife. Her family and friends were the center of her world, and her legacy of love and devotion will live on in all who knew her.
A visitation for Gail will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Funeraria Del Angel Anaheim, 2425 West Lincoln Ave, Anaheim, CA 92801. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, 2425 West Lincoln Ave, Anaheim, CA 92801. A graveside service will occur Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn, 4471 Lincoln Ave, Cypress, CA 90630.
