Frank Bank, 83, died in his sleep at his home at W. Harriet Ln. on 12/21/11. He was well-known in the grocery industry as a salesman and supervisor first with Archway Cookies and then for many years with Sunshine Biscuits.
He was born in a farm village Osikov, Czechoslovakia on 17 November 1928 and raised by grand parents upon the death of his mother and sister in childbirth, while his father John Bank sought work in the nickel mines of Ontario.
When he was 8, Frank emigrated alone to Pennsylvania to join his now coal miner father and his new family with wife, Susie Hlatky and their two young boys in Commodore, PA. His father became a US citzen and Frank's new family was increased by the birth of a baby girl. 18 months later on 29 December 1942, disaster again struck in Frank's young life as his father was in a personal cave-in at the coal mine that killed just him and a workmate. Susie Bank took her daughter and three boys and fled to Warren, Ohio so the boys would never have to work in a coal mine. Frank was raised there until he joined the US Army in 1947 as part of the occupational force in Japan.
Frank lived in Warren working for GM's Packard Electric, bricklaying and entering the grocery business as an owner of three Archway Cookie routes until he was 30, when he married Mary Bank, and moved to Anaheim. Mary died 11/29/06.
Frank is survived by two daughters, Michelle and Diane. Michelle Bates lives in Tustin with her husband Steven and their daughter, Melissa, the former Mater Dei swimming record holder, who is now on a sports scholarship as a second year student in the swiim team at Cal Berkeley. Diane is married to Robert and they have two daughters, Dana, 18, and Jennifer in Orange.
Frank has two surviving brothers, Donald Bank of Medina, OH and Dr. John Bank of London, England.
Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria del Angel Pierce Brothers Anaheim Mortuary, Anaheim, CA.
