Vincent G. Butler, age 84 of Ames, IA, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, February 14, 2020, at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th Street Ames, IA 50010). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Collegiate United Methodist Church (2622 Lincoln Way Ames, IA 50014). Memorials may be directed to Israel Family Hospice.
Vince was born September 9, 1935, in Nevada, Iowa, to Ralph and Ilo (Nelson) Butler. He graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1953. Vince met the love of his life, Donna Robertson in the 8th grade at a skating rink. They were married on February 14, 1954 in Hubbard, IA and welcomed four children: Craig, Chris, Cyndi and Connie. The family moved around the area a few times, settling in Cedar Falls and then eventually to Ames in 1969. Vince was a traveling salesman for A.Y. McDonald Plumbing and Heating Supply for many years.
Following retirement, the family enjoyed their houseboat on Saylorville Lake and then eventually their lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks. He enjoyed working in cars in his free time, always having many projects in his garage. Vince was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church, the Ballard Golf and Country Club, and he enjoyed roller skating and bowling with Donna for many years.
Vince is survived by his wife of 66 years, Donna Butler, children: Craig (Becky) Butler of Ames, Chris Butler of Minneapolis, MN, Cyndi Sutter of Overland Park, KS and Connie (Brian) Cook of West Des Moines; grandchildren: Ryan (Kiley) Sutter and daughter Kennedy Jo, Matthew Sutter, Megan (Devin) Rose, Emily (Tyler) Timmerman, Samantha and Nicholas Cook. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister, and son-in-law, Steve Sutter.
