There will be a private family service at a later date.
Mary Kathryn (Blough) Dieter was born in Grand Rapids, MI on May 14, 1929 to Lloyd and Kathryn Blough. She moved to South Bend, IN as a young girl, graduating from Riley High School in 1946. She worked at Tower Federal Savings and Loan in a variety of roles. She was married to Robert “Bob” Dieter on October 15, 1954. They resided in Goshen following their marriage and moved to Elkhart shortly thereafter. During Mary’s time in Elkhart, she held multiple clerical and secretarial roles while raising her family.
In 2007, Bob and Mary returned to Goshen residing at Greencroft Communities. After spending nearly 85 years in North Central Indiana, Mary moved to Story City, IA where she resided at Bethany Life Community since 2017.
Throughout Mary’s life, she assumed many different roles. She was a mother, a grandmother, a volunteer, Bob’s caretaker, and a friend to all. Those left to recall her legacy will remember her fondly by her bright smile, her nearly daily donning of the color blue, and her unwavering love for every single dog she met.
Mary is survived by a son, Brian (Jennifer) Dieter of Ames, IA, and two granddaughters, Abby (Jake) Shoemaker of Omaha, NE and Rachel Dieter of Gilbert, AZ; and a daughter, Joellyn (Mike) Key of Neenah, WI, and her family.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and nurses at Bethany Life Community, specifically those who worked in Christine’s House where Mary resided and Pastor Dave Burling, as well as the Mary Greeley Medical Center Hospice Team for the exceptional care and love they shared with Mary.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Mary’s memory to your local humane society or the Bethany Life Foundation.
Fond memories or expressions of sympathy may be left at www.stevensmemorialchapel.com for the Dieter family.
