Lucille Martha Wittler Jenkins, 96, of Ames, arrived home safe in the arms of Jesus on Saturday, March 8, 2014 while a patient at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 10:30 am at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1430 24th St, Ames with burial at Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery to follow. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 6 – 8 pm at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St, Ames.
Lucille was born December 24, 1917 in Winside, Nebraska; the daughter of William and Mary Krause Wittler. Lucille married Melvin David Jenkins on October 30, 1942. She spent her life serving others and was a devoted wife and mother. Lucille enjoyed doing various crafts and was active in a knitting club. Her greatest passion was her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spoiling them with sweet treats.
Lucille enjoyed church functions and was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames. Above all, it was Lucille’s desire that people know she loved the Lord.
Lucille is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (David) Ostendorf of Mexico, Missouri, Carla (Jeff) Bagdanov of Bozeman, Montana and Karen (Merle) Andrew of Ames; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; four step great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Dunn and Lorene Patent both of Randolph, Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Margaret Wittler of Randolph, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin on April 20, 1991; two brothers, Ervin and Elmer Wittler; and two step granddaughters, Neva and Lyla Andrew.
