A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbert/Franklin Community Center, 105 Southeast 2nd Street, Gilbert, Iowa 50105. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Gilbert Cemetery.
Kenneth Burnice Thompson was born on April 13, 1934 in rural Ames at the family home to Blanchard Jerome and Evelyn Corine (Holt) Thompson. He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1953 and after high school enlisted into the US Army and was stationed in Germany during his time in the service. After the service he was united in marriage to Gwen Anderson on May 2, 1959 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, Iowa.
Kenneth was a commercial and residential finishing carpenter working most of his career with Story Construction. He enjoyed wood working, watching and feeding the birds, motorcycling, camping, watching NASCAR races and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kenneth was a great family man, a person of integrity and he looked out for others and was helpful to all who needed his help.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Gwen Thompson; two children, Kristi (Denis) Gibson and Julie (Chad) Keane; five grandchildren, Breanna, Shelby, Lauren, Daniel, and Bethany, and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Jerry Thompson.
Memorials may be directed to the family and will be given to a charity of their choosing at a later date in memory of Kenneth.
