A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th Street, Ames, Iowa. here will be no visitation but family will have a time of food and fellowship following the service. Inurnment of his ashes will be at South St. Petri Cemetery in Gilbert, Iowa at a later date.
Harold Hans Mesenbrink was born on July 23, 1925 to Hans Peter and Grace Elizabeth (Tigner) Mesenbrink in Ames, Iowa. He attended Ames High School until his junior year when he enlisted into the US Army. When he turned 18 he was stationed in Europe. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded during the battle. He ended his service as a part of the Army Air Corp. Harold was united in marriage to Jean Marie Haveman on June 6, 1947 in Ames, Iowa at her parents’ house. Jean’s uncle Pastor Bill VerWolfe officiated the wedding. There was a child to this union, Larry. Harold enjoyed working, snowmobiling, hunting, buying and selling vehicles and working the home farm. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He worked for Iowa State University for 50 years as a machinist in the Agricultural Engineering Department and retired in 1992.
Harold is survived by his son, Larry and his wife, Kris Mesenbrink of Gilbert; two grandchildren, Lane and his wife, Marlo Mesenbrink of Gilbert and Jolene Mesenbrink of Neveda; six great grandchildren, Jessie Elmore, Nikki Schneider, Logan Mesenbrink, Cody Randall, John Mesenbrink and Emma Mesenbrink and eleven great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his parents; a brother, Bernie “Bud” Mesenbrink, and two sisters, Evelyn DeMoss, and Lois Jean Klundt.
