George was born in Ypsilanti, North Dakota on February 22, 1924. He moved to Northwood, Iowa at the age of three years old. George graduated from Northwood High School in 1942.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. George spent time in Italy and France with the 36th Infantry Division and was wounded in France on October 15, 1944. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service.
George was united in marriage to Ida Anderson on December 20, 1947. They had two children.
George was preceded in death by his wife Ida (2020); his mother, Sena Thompson; brother, Harlan Thompson; his sister and brother-in-law, Selma & Ray Gerszewski.
George is survived by his daughter, Sharyn Marvin, and husband Bill of Ponte Vedra, Florida; his son, Larry and wife Linda of Colo, Iowa. His grandchildren, Julie (Kevin) McGee, Ryan (Christina) Adams, Kristin (Aaron) Moses, Kory (Megan) Thompson, Kyle (Kelly) Thompson, Ted (Tasha) Marvin, JC (Morgan) Marvin, Dylan Marvin, and Peter (Suzy) Marvin; and great-grandchildren, Sophie and Abby McGee of Chattanooga, Aubrey and Henry Moses of Colo, Iowa, and Hollis Thompson; Liam and Livy Marvin of Gainesville, FL; Ava and Logan Marvin of Leesburg, VA; Ellison and Finley Marvin of Redding, CA.
