Elwyn, or “ET”, as he was known, was born in 1934 on a farm near Winona, Kansas. He was the only child of Hazel June (Council) Taylor and Bert Jay Taylor. He graduated from McPherson College before going on to receive a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
In 1961, he married Lucille Irene Hege, daughter of Otto and Mabel (Steinlicht) Hege in Aberdeen, Idaho. Together, Elwyn and Lucille raised three children: Jeff, Mike, and Amy.
From 1962-1969, Elwyn served as a general practice physician in Haven, Kansas. In 1969, he joined the Medical Center in Hutchinson, Kansas where he practiced until his retirement in 1993.
In 2001, Elwyn and Lucille moved to Ames, Iowa to enjoy their retirement years. His passions included traveling, playing games, reading, volunteering at the Ames Public Library, attending theatre at ISU & Actor’s Community Theatre, and spending quality time with his family. He courted Lucille every day for 59 years.
Elwyn’s parents, Hazel and Bert Taylor, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Lucille and his three children and their spouses: Jeff (Susie) Taylor, Mike (Holly) Taylor and Amy (Chad) Turner Zmolek. Among the three families, Elwyn was grandpa to nine grandchildren.
According to his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no formal memorial service. The family will have a private celebration of his life at a later time.
