We had no idea that Doris had passed away!  We are so sorry, and now Paula is gone.  We saw your comments, Sheryl on the newspaper obit here in Ottumwa.  I hope you find this as Greg has wondered where you  and Marcia were.  We so loved both your parents, and Greg misses his conversations with Lyle about airplanes and their history!(I wish you could see Greg's office at home!)  Doris was always a favorite for me....because of her cheery and fun nature.....I loved it!  I'm crossing my fingers that we can connect and have your addresses and emails.  We would love it. Doris and Lyle were friends of my parents, Kenny and Bonnie Schmitz, years ago. I have fond memories of them at our home, and spending time with the girls. Doris's face and voice is still very clear in my memory. I am so sorry to hear of your loss, and my thoughts are with the family.

Sheryl and Marcia, I am very sorry for the loss of your lovely Mother.  I remember Doris so fondly from our time living in Ottumwa.  She was such a pleasant and fun loving person to be around.  Doris, Peggy and my mother, Bonnie,  were such good friends.  I have so many pleasant memories of that time.   Your memories of your Mother will sustain you, as memories of my Mother do me.

I had the privilege of taking care of Doris before she went to Green Hills. I use to drive her big red car and take her to bingo...we had so much fun! I cherish the memories and will miss her. To Marcia and Cheryl you were blessed with a wonderful mother....my sympathy and love to you and your family. Trish Durham

Have to say "so long" to Doris  and will see you later. We said that so many times when we left the food service at  Welch  Jr. High such a long time ago. Doris introduced me to first buttering bread for the kid's lunches. We had a good time working there,kids were great and Doris managed everything in the kitchen.We remained friends after I moved on to the High School.She was beautiful,fun, and loyal to her close friends. I know Marsha and Cheryl  and I know how much they will miss the  love that Doris poured onto them  every  day.Sorry to say I will  mourn and cry for Doris who always worked hard to treat all her friends alike and with patience, especially me. with love to Doris Cheryl and Marsha. patty

My sympathy to you, Sheryl and Marcia. No one knew and cared for you longer than your mother. I worked with Doris for 13 years and treasured her steady, caring relationships with all ages. After we were each retired, we shared stories of our families and friends while we each lived at Green Hills. I will always think of Doris with her welcoming smile and will feel her absence even more when we can again freely visit friends and family. 

Doris and I  were good buddies when we were growing up. Her Mother Kate Kerr and my mother Edith Tanner were sisters.  We walked together to a little country church  for sunday school.
Doris graduated from Delta High School in 1948 and I graduated from there in 1949.  Doris was born Feb. 27, 1930 and I was born May 26, 1931. So there was a little over a year difference in our ages.  know that she has 2 daughters Marilyn and Cheryl but I have never had the opportunity to meet them.  She has a living sister Kathline Cline who lives in an assisted living in Denver, Colo. They have been "face timing" each other to communicate.  Girls you have my deepest sympathy in the loss of someone so dear as your Mother. You can never replace the love of a Mother.


Sorry to read about Doris's Moore death.  I worked with Doris at the High School and then had lots of good laughs when we did Rummage at Collegiate Presbyterian Church.  Marsha was in class with our son Ryan Johnston.  We liked to watch her play basketball.
When the last parent leaves it is a big void.  Best wishes for you girls.

I worked with Lyle until he retired and then enjoyed seeing him and Doris out walking while I delivered mail on Ontario, two sweet people.  I visited Doris at Green Hills many times and she always had a smile and a chuckle for me.  I have missed visiting her but have a nice image of her and Lyle walking together again.

Doris was such a lovely lady. Enjoyed her coming to Jazz Jam and Country Jam at Heartland Senior Services. RIP, 


Doris was such a sweet lady.  We belonged to a Post Office Wives group and had lots of fun together.  We lived in the Ontario Road area and enjoyed seeing her with her white dog.
