Wilma’s father passed away early in her life so she grew up under a strong Mother raising her and her sisters alone. This would come to be the foundation of Wilma’s love for everything outdoors, giving extra attention to her flowerbeds which never looked short of perfect. If she wasn’t occupied inside, she was very much occupied in nature. When indoors, Wilma loved playing cards with her family, always giving her son-in-laws Fred and Bill a hard time about ‘cheating’ any time they were coming out on top. Wilma was so confident in her game skills that she even hit the casinos to try out her luck but always starting with a few rolls of nickels and dimes just in case things didn’t go as planned. When Wilma wasn’t playing cards or tending to her flowerbeds, she could be found cooking her family-favorite enchiladas, red beans and the occasional coconut pound cake. Wilma had a very special place in her heart for Meals on Wheels and the phenomenal services they provided her lifelong community.
Wilma is preceded in death by her husband Billy Gene Bell, parents Katie Mae and Johnny Redwine Morris, six sisters and grandson Jeff Coffman.
Wilma leaves to carry on her legacy, daughter Paula June Kirby and husband Fred Kirby of Amarillo, Texas, daughter Gwenda Grant and husband Bill Grant of Amarillo, Texas, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in Wilma’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your own favorite charity.
A memorial service for Wilma will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 6969 East Interstate 40, Amarillo, TX 79118.
