William was born in the Taishan region in Southeastern China in 1933.He emigrated to the United States as a teenager.He attended school at the old Amarillo High School downtown and worked at the Canton Cafe.He joined some relatives to found the Far East Cafe in Grand Junction, Colorado. While he was there, he got a draft notice, so he entered military service with the US Army in 1955.He was smart enough to not disclose that he worked in a restaurant so as to avoid being stuck working in the kitchen while in the service. Because he learned bookkeeping, accounting and typing in high school, he was eventually assigned to duties as the company clerk. Because he could read and write Chinese, he was given the opportunity to go the language school after which he was assigned to duty in a Special Forces intelligence unit in Korea.After his discharge from active duty, he met and married Karen, his bride, in 1957.In 1968 he moved to Amarillo to found the China Inn Restaurant with his father and brother where he worked as manager and chef until he retired in 1984.William enjoyed eating out and talking with family and friends. He loved to travel, both by car and taking tours to Hawaii and China.His other interests include computers, geocaching, watching the Dallas Cowboys, coin collecting and playing Mah Jongg and Chinese chess.
He is survived by his sons; William Gee Jr, Plano Texas,Randy Gee, Wylie, Texas Jason Gee, Amarillo Texas, daughter; Angela Bray, Amarillo, Texas, brother; Jack Gee (& wife Rita), Amarillo, Texas,Grandchildren; Remy Bray, Amarillo, Texas and Daniel Bray, Amarillo, Texas.
William is preceded in death by his loving wife; Karen Gee passing in 2007, parents; Duck On Gee passing in 2006 Suey Jen Gee, brother; Tock Gee passing in 2006.
William will be missed by both his family and friends.
