Willa Dean Thompson Fisher was born April 6, 1927 in Blanchard, Oklahoma to Eli Wilson Thompson and Anna Mae Kemp Thompson.
Her father died shortly before she was born so she grew up on her grandparents farm with her mother and 4 siblings. She graduated from Middleberg High School in 1946. On February 15, 1947 she married the love her life, Forrest Fisher in Chickasha, Oklahoma. To this union were born 6 children. They moved to Amarillo, Texas on an Indian motorcycle shortly after they were married where they lived the rest of their lives. She was a homemaker while the children were small and worked various jobs as they grew older, including Levi Strauss and in alterations at Colberts and Bealls Department Stores.
The great loves in her life were her family and church. She was affectionately known as Sug by her family, Ms Dee by her friends at church, Mom and Grandma. She was Grandma to many children, related or not. She never met a stranger. Everyone was always welcomed into her home and her heart with open arms and a loving smile. She never forgot a face and once you were her friend, you were a friend for life. She loved going to craft shows and was a regular at many vendors. For many years she had Sunday dinners at her house and expected everyone to be there. She always enjoyed the babies and rejoiced at each birth. She remained interested in family activities until her death. She was always supportive of her husband and his interests. She was a faithful military wife while he served in Vietnam in the late 1960’s. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of RSES while Forrest was an active member.
She loved watching sports and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and OU Sooners. Whatever college her children and grandchildren attended, she would cheer for them.
She and Forrest were faithful members of Caprock Baptist Church since 1967. She served in many areas through the years – Sunday School teacher, secretary, nursery worker, Ladies group. She hated missing church services and attended faithfully.
She is survived by her 6 children: Deanna Furrow and husband Chelsea; Lin Fisher and wife Mary; Phillis Brown all of Amarillo; Phillip Fisher and wife Carla of Lubbock, TX; Raynee Craven and husband Clifford Williams of Amarillo; Mark Fisher and wife Rhonda of Lubbock, TX; 19 grandchildren; 32 Great-grandchildren; and 19 Great-great grandchildren.
