Ruby was born January 16, 1928 at home in Fritch, TX to Roy and Ruby Wright. She was number eight of ten children – five boys and five girls. The Wright family was one of the first three families to live in the Fritch area. Ruby’s older brother, Roy B. Wright, Jr. was the first baby born in the area. The Wright family received the first load of cattle from New Mexico.
Ruby graduated from Phillips High School and attended West Texas State University for two years. While working in Fritch she met and married Harold D. Dowdy(deceased) and had a daughter, Karen. They lived all their married life in Fritch. After Harold passed she moved to Amarillo and met Cliff Smith. They married and a short time later moved to Conroe, TX. The past three years she was a resident at GrandBrook Memory Care in Grapevine, TX where she was loved and cared for by the staff there.
Married Cliff Smith and moved to Conroe where they lived for almost twenty years. They made new friends and neighbors and were blessed to live near Cliff’s daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ruby is survived by her her husband Cliff Smith, daughters; Karen Kuykendall and husband Steve, a younger sister; DeeAnne Crowley of Spring, TX, Susan Smith, Linda and husband Joe Stroud, grandchildren; Chris and wife Lori Kuykendall, Courtney Kuykendall Burns and husband Jim, Myles Stroud, Bentley Stroud, Bradley Stroud, Melody Stroud and Michael Stroud and their spouses, eight great-grandchildren; Katie, Maddie, Zach and Emma Kuykendall, Brooklyn, Conley, Berkley and Bowen Burns as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
