Mr. Mathews was born November 8, 1928 in Myra, Texas to William and Nellie Mathews. Mr. Mathews served in the Army from January 1951 through October, 1952. He married Betty Jean Almon on April 29, 1951. Mathews was avid hunter as well as an expert marksman, enjoying his membership in the Amarillo gun club beginning in 1989. He won numerous trophies and awards for his marksmanship. Mr. Mathews was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge Number 1242 in Borger, Texas. Bob moved to Borger in 1952 and worked for Standard Asbestos Company for several years. They moved to Amarillo and he worked for Howell Insulation Company for 18 years before retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean in 2004, his parents, two brothers, one sister, and a Brother-in-Law Mark Almon.
Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Linn and Kate Morrison. A niece Joy Bivins, a nephew, Russell Almon, sister-in-law, Maureen Almon. Numerous other nieces and nephews, and many friends.
