Rex D. Robertson, age 84, of Amarillo, TX, died March 23, 2022. A visitation will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors at 5400 Bell St., Amarillo, TX, 79109 from 4:00pm to 8:00p.m. A funeral service will be held at the above mentioned location on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 2:00pm in the Pioneer Chapel with Pastor Glenn Switzer officiating. Immediately after, a graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Amarillo at 14200 Texas Plains Trail I-27, Amarillo, TX 79119. Rex was born on April 18, 1937 in Gorman, TX to Raymond H. & Ila Welch Robertson.
Rex married the love of his life Wynona (Nona) Thompson on January 22, 1955 in Comanche, TX. Rex & Nona were raised in the Beattie, TX community in Comanche County. They had three sons. Rex and Nona moved to Amarillo from Bellevue, TX in 1972.
Rex was the General Manager at the Travelodge West on Paramount for several years. From there they owned and operated Nona’s Café at Bell Ave, I-27, for many years. The last six years of working was at the Owens Corning Fiberglass Plant where he retired in 2002.
Survivors include sons Raymond D. and wife Sheree of Parker, CO, Larry D. and wife Celi of Dallas, TX, granddaughter Jillene and husband Jason Thrash and their daughter Camryn of Sand Springs, OK, Grandson E.C. (Elias) and wife Jessica and their daughter Jericha of Amarillo, TX, sister-in-laws Alicia and husband Regan Hotard, Darlene and husband Don Murphy, brother-in-law Lonnie and wife Gayle Stallcup and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rex was preceded in death by his wife Nona on April 3, 2001 parents Raymond and Ila Robertson, son Malcolm W. Robertson and two brothers and a sister.
The family will receive friends at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors on Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
Rex was a long time member of Lamount Dr. Baptist Church in Amarillo, TX.
Serving as pallbearers are Elias Robertson, Regan Hotard, Raymond "Cochise" Caple, Jason Thrash, Bill Kinzer, Grady Hodge, Lonnie Stallcup Sr., Don Murphy, Randy Robertson, Bob Ross, Shawn Shelton, Raymond Robertson and Larry Robertson.
