Raymond Lee Wright was born September 5, 1950 to Alonzo and Edna Wright. As a young man he confessed his faith in Jesus and was baptized in Anton, Texas. He attended Palo Duro high school in Amarillo. As a young man he spent many summers in Anton, Texas helping on the family farm. He also loved to go to Childress, Texas to work on the Wright family farm as well. After graduation he joined the Army and served in Viet Nam. He married the love of his life, Linda Cottle in 1972. There were two children born to this marriage, Wendy and Jeff. Richard spent a lot of quality time with his family. After Linda’s passing he married Cheryl Shelton. He also cared for her children, Tony, Greg and Ashley. He loved to ride his motorcycle in his prime or younger years. He would often travel with his friends to ride their motorcycles in the mountains. He worked with his father on the pipeline. Later, he went on to drive a truck for Baldwin Trucking. He also worked for Howell Sand and Gravel as a heavy equipment operator. He was one of the best blade operators in town. Raymond was a jack of all trades. Once when Tasha wrecked her car she needed to go to Oklahoma City to see Ryan. Raymond used chicken wire and zip ties to hold her car together. She made it all the way to Oklahoma and back to Amarillo. Raymond had many stories about him and his mother loading up the car on weekends and going wherever his dad was working. They would travel for many hours, visit with his dad and then to return to attend school or work on Monday. As a family they loved to travel. He loved going to the lake and fishing. He was looking forward to one more visit at the lake. His dog Goober will miss him. Raymond had meat snacks and hot dogs for him. Goober did not play well with others. He acted awfully to others. Only Raymond could love a dog like that. Raymond was more worried about Goober than anything else.
Preceded in death both his parents, his wife Linda Wright and his son Jeffrey. Survived by his daughter Wendy Wright Escamilla, his grandchildren, Haley Escamilla and fiancé Pedro Gonzalez, Tasha Lemarr and husband Ryan, Sidney Wright, Cameron Gilmore and wife Taylor and four hard-headed great grandchildren, Jaxten, Bentley, Adalynn, Shyla and Cooper will be here in May.
Raymond L. Wright, age 72, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Tuesday March 7, 2023. He will be missed by both his family and friend
