Ramon Gonzales was born to Anastasio and Sabina Gonzales August, 9, 1923, in Rockdale,
Texas. Ramon was a long-time resident of Amarillo, working as a superintendent for Gilvin-
Terrill. He married Tomasa Saenz in 1962. He taught himself English by reading a Spanish-
English Bible, and had memorized most of the scriptures. He was a faithful member of Temple
Baptist Church for 30 years, where he cherished the men’s prayer group and looked forward to
visiting other members of the congregation. Ramon enjoyed time spent at the Wesley
Community Center, watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers, and playing
dominoes with his family.
He was loving and welcoming to everyone he met, and was loved
dearly by all who knew him.
The surviving immediate family includes Larry and Donna Saenz of San Antonio, Harry and
Stella Saenz of Amarillo, Ruth Solis of Amarillo, Eva and George Neubert of Brownville,
Nebraska, and Edna and Ronny Browning of Amarillo. He is survived in death by his siblings,
Manuel Gonzales of Fort Worth, Elida Zapata of San Antonio, Christina Davila of San Antonio, and Annie Velgara of San Antonio. Ramon was loved by all of his grandchildren, Ronn Solis of Frisco, Nina Grant of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Jessica Saenz of
San Antonio, Robby and Monica Browning of Amarillo, and Kat Browning and Beau Cross of
Amarillo. His great-grandchildren, Cyan Cruz of Austin, Ryadh Cruz of Colorado Springs, Eli
Solis of Wichita Falls, Gabby Solis of Wichita Falls, Dominic Solis of Frisco, Mireia Grant of
Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Jurrien Saenz of San Antonio, Rockit Browning of Amarillo, and one
great-great grandchild, Oliver Cruz of Austin, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife
Tomasa Gonzales of Amarillo, and granddaughter, Rene Cruz of Humble, Texas.
The family has requested all memorials be made to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, c/o
Temple Baptist Church (3208 S Van Buren St, Amarillo, Texas, 79109).
