Phyllis graduated from Amarillo High School and went on to marry the love of her life Eino Bernhard Hella in 1958. Eino’s job took them all around the Country and they had many outdoor adventures along the way mountain climbing, backpacking, bike riding long distance, hunting, fishing, sailing and competition sport shooting all while raising four boys. Phyllis’s love for her family was evident in her willingness to put her family as the center of her world. You must be a strong but loving Mother and Wife to raise four boys all while moving to many new cities. Phyllis was an amazing cook and kind soul. She supported her husband and his work as it took him away frequently. She supported her boys in all their athletic endeavors as they went to school then in their service to our Country in the Armed Forces. She loved landscaping, Native American art and jewelry and everything out of doors.
Phyllis leaned heavily on the Lord throughout her life. Praying for her husband’s safety at work and her children’s safety as they grew up and joined the military. Phyllis and Eino lost a son Gary Thomas Hella serving in the Air Force in 1985 at the age of 23 years. This had a profound impact on Phyllis, Eino and Gary’s three siblings. Phyllis continued to soldier through her grief with the support of Eino. The Lord brought grandchildren into their life and the love and pride that Phyllis had for each of them could never be doubted up until the final months of her life.
August 9th, 2008 brought another curve ball to Phyllis. The love of her life passed away and from that point forward she struggled to find her joy. Eino and the boys were her world. She moved to Amarillo and then to Albuquerque to be closer to family. She had one joy and that was her family. She would attend grandchildren’s ball games, rodeos and dinners with her sister Cynthia and husband Ken. Phyllis slowly passed from a failing body but ultimately her broken heart. The family takes great solace that this wife and mother is now reunited with Jesus and her loved ones in heaven. Her joy is restored.
Phyllis was predeceased by her son Gary Thomas Hella in 1985, Eino Hella in 2008, her Father Gene Smith her mother Chrys Smith.
