He moved to Amarillo in August of 1974. Only left once briefly to go to Marble Falls but missed his beloved town and returned. Good thing because it was here that Peter met his wife of almost 15 years, Pam. He was an Amarillo High Sandie before attending mortuary school at Amarillo College. Peter was a licensed funeral director for years but switched professions to become a licensed hearing aid distributor, helping his parents run Advanced Hearing Technologies for many years. Peter had recently returned to the practice of funeral directing in 2018 working for Griggs-Schooler-Gordon and Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Through the years Peter also worked for Pam’s Dad travelling all over to handle large parade balloons.
Peter’s other loves include everything automotive. He spent much of his youth and young adult life re-building old muscle cars. Peter loved to travel, he was fortunate to visit multiple locations in France and Italy, including Rome and a private tour of the Vatican as well as Monaco. He traveled to Jerusalem to work a parade and visited many historic sites. Peter also visited Antigua, St. Maarten, St. Barts and recently Jamaica.
Peter was a member and very passionate of Southwest Ambucs, an organization that provides bicycles and tricycles to handicapped children and vets. He was also very active in the Amarillo Executive Club for years. Peter loved his community of Lake Tanglewood. He served on the Board and served two terms as President.
He was preceded in Death by his grandfathers Peter Darby and Robert “Bob” Gleason, sister Rebekah Gleason, Aunt Alice Gleason Odom, cousin Alyssa Saldana and “brother in law” Vic Cleveland.
