Carol was born on June 4, 1954, in Amarillo, Texas, to Henry and Mary Helen Paul. In her early years, she was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Hiram and Maurine Powell. Later in life, she was reunited with her mother, Mary Helen, and stepfather, Jimmie Flowers. A lifelong resident of Amarillo, Carol cherished her roots and remained close to her family throughout her life. She graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1972, and just two days later, on May 30, 1972, she married the love of her life, Dennis Cowan. They built a beautiful life together in Amarillo, raising their family with love, faith, and laughter. Carol was a devoted Christian who deeply loved her Lord. She found joy in the simple things—cooking for her family, camping trips, and casino outings with friends and loved ones. She rarely missed a grandchild’s event, always cheering from the sidelines with pride. Though she was primarily a homemaker, Carol also worked various jobs throughout her life, including time as a realtor, ten years as a campus secretary at Sam Houston, and ten years as a clerk at Furr’s and Homeland Grocery.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dennis Cowan; her children, Shane Cowan and wife Brandi of Amarillo, Heather Arellano and husband Michael, and Heidi Parsons and husband Chad; her beloved grandchildren, Kylie James, Hayden James, Morgan Newkirk, Colin Arellano, Rennen James, Josh Holly, Ryen Parsons, Tavin Parsons, and Michael Taylor; and five great-grandchildren.
Carol's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, loved her, and were lucky enough to be loved by her.
