Funeral mass is scheduled for 10am, Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The family will receive friends for a viewing and Rosary service from 5-7pm, Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors.
Paula was born to Faustino and Escolastica Salinas on July 19, 1940. She attended school an grew up in Miles, Texas, where she met her husband, Francisco "Frank" Martinez Jr. They were married on May 17, 1959 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena, Texas. Together, they had 6 children, 5 living (RIP Virgil), Rosario, Rachel, Marcos, Dolores and Juanita. Paula and Frank relocated to Amarillo, Texas in 1968. Paula was employed at Levi Strauss before obtaining her certification as a licensed hairdresser. Paula truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures such as, jewelry-beading and spending time with her family, grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. As she would often remind them, "Be good and listen, be careful and I love you." Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with as well as those she reached but never met. Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Faustino and Escolastica Salinas; her husband, Francisco "Frank" Martinez; her infant son, Virgil; her brother, Modesto Salinas.
Those left to cherish her memory are her five children, Rosario and husband, Tim Holman, of Amarillo, Rachel Martinez-Coleman and husband, Tim, of Amarillo, Marcos Martinez and wife, Regina, of Amarillo, Dolores Marcum, of Amarillo, Juanita Martinez-Trevino and husband Chris, of Burleson, Texas; her brother, Tino Salinaz, of Amarillo, her sister-in-laws, Lupe Salinaz and Hortencia Salinas; her grandchildren, Gina Arellano, Marianne Mata, Victoria Frausto, Adrian Mata, Skyler Holman, Taylor Holman, Jaclyn Inkhamheng, Matthew Perez, Jacob Perez, Danielle Alvarez, Marcos Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Francisco “Frankie” Marcum, Destiny Marcum, Clarissa Marcum, Heather Thomas and Justine Trevino; her 31 Great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; her nieces and nephews and a host of extended family members.
On behalf of the family, they ask that charitable contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, as this was an organization that was very special to Paula. “We would like to apologize for the discrepancies that occurred in the prior posted obituary.”
