Millie was the 8th of 11 children and the daughter of Hungarian immigrants John and Elizabeth Pinter. Raised in Wheeling, West Virginia, Millie and her siblings were musically gifted and always entertaining everyone around. She loved to tell stories of her father John’s talent with the violin. Her mother was known for her exceptional skill in the kitchen, preparing Old World cuisine on a shoestring budget for her ever growing family. After Elizabeth’s passing, the children honored their mother’s wishes to have an annual reunion to celebrate their family’s heritage, talents and traditions and have done so since 1974.
Our small-but-mighty matriarch was a Wheeling High School graduate and married her well over 6-foot-tall Edward F. Nolte on May 6, 1951, right before he left to serve in the Korean War. Some of their best years were spent on Allendale Road in Wheeling, raising their two children, Ed and Marsha, hunting dogs, and an acre garden. In 1967 they moved to Gahanna, Ohio for more opportunity. Tragically, Ed passed away at the age 44 leaving a young Millie to care for her teenage children. Never one to feel sorry for herself, with the help of friends and family, she forged ahead with her new unexpected life, supporting herself and her children.
Millie’s career outside the home spanned 40 years. Her detail-oriented work ethic kept her skills in high demand. She ultimately found her way to Franklin County MR & DD as an account manager and retired at the age of 82.
A charming, witty gentleman eventually caught her eye and in 1984 she married Maurice Jones in Gahanna, Ohio where their blended family included both Millie’s two children, Maury’s 4 sons and all their children. They spent many years traveling to visit their extensive brood both in the States and abroad. Additionally, they looked forward to their annual golf trips to Myrtle Beach with friends and the never-to-be-missed Pinter Family Reunion. When they weren’t adventuring, they could be found at the kitchen table animatedly discussing current events or literature.
A voracious reader, Mimi (as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren) could readily be found with her daily paper and several books. Likewise, she loved staying up to date on all the goings-on in her ever-expanding family. To quote a precious grandniece “Great Aunt Millie was truly one of a kind and always super-excited for anything going on in my life." Her family was, of course, her favorite current event.
Millie had the gift of gab and there was never a stranger when in her presence. She took great care in providing a home that was welcoming for family and friends. Thanks to her passion for festive decorating, there was never a doubt what holiday was around the corner. To all those who knew and loved her, no celebration will pass without remembering Mimi’s special touch.
Millie is survived by her sister Marianne McCausland of Moundsville, WV, daughter, Marsha (Roger) Vogel of Fayetteville, NC and Son, Edward (Emily) Nolte of Amarillo, TX, Stepsons Larry (Patty) Jones of Westminster, MD, Doug (Kelly) Jones of Mt. Airy, MD, Brian (Helen) Jones of Carroll, OH, her 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Millie was predeceased by her first husband Edward F. Nolte, second husband, Maurice Jones, her precious 9 siblings and stepson Kenneth Jones and his wife Shelley Jones.
A Celebration of Millie’s life at graveside services will be held later this year where she will be laid to rest with her first husband Edward F. Nolte in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in West Virginia.
