Mickey Lynn (Suit) Thaxton was born on February 22, 1949 to Willard and Marcile Suit.
From the moment of birth, Mickey was the highlight of her family. The only child of the family, to say she was their pride and joy is an understatement. She lived with her Mother and Dad in Borger, Texas. Graduating as a proud Borger Bulldog in May of 1967. Mickey was a ball of fire. While in high school, she tried her hand at a variety of things, from one end of the gambit, bowling, roller Derby Roller, Hockey to the other, such as ballet, Tap and Jazz dancing. Her father was always her coach and proudest supporter. Mickey had a desire to help people. In September 1969, she graduated from North Plains School of Nursing as an LVN. She was a tireless energy and found her passion in life. Many people want to be a nurse, Mickey, on the other hand, was The nurse. She had a hunger and passion for learning any and everything about nursing. After a time, Mickey decided to further her education. She enrolled in Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing in Amarillo, Texas. Upon completion, she became a Registered Nurse in September 1974. From that moment on, the sky was the limit for Mickey. She explored and worked in many fields of nursing. She was an excellent Surgical nurse, working at High Plains Baptist Day Surgery. Mickey was the office nurse for Dr. Donald Frank and Dr. Jack Walker. After her tenure there, she was among other things the Director of Nurses at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, the Veterans Hospital, and at NorthWest Texas Hospital as the PreAdmission Nurse, later developing the Pre Admission Department. All total, Mickey was an active nurse for forty two years. A nurse for always in her heart. She joined Beta Sigma Phi in 1969 and was honored in a ceremony as a 50 year plus member. In June, 1997 Mickey married the love of her life, Larry Thaxton. They were soul mates, best friends, and role model for all married couples. As Mickey’s health began to fail, Larry faithfully and with much dedication cared for Mickey and devoted his time and energy to caring for his wife. Mickey belonged to the Amarillo Seventh Day Adventist Church. She actively volunteered with the church school, she was a chaperone, worked in women’s ministry and community service.
Proceeding her in death are her Grandparents, William and Gertrude Froust and her parents, Willard and Marcile Suit.
Mickey is survived by her dear friends and extended family. Mickey was loved and cherished by all who knew her, she will be dearly missed. Her legacy will live on in her great works and joy she shared.
