Michael David Norton, 58, passed away January 21st, 2023 at his home in Amarillo, Texas. He was born in Biddeford, Maine, to Boyce Norton and Mary Jo Anne Cogill on May 13th, 1964. He grew up in Limerick, ME and attended Massabesic High School. He spent much of his early years raising his three daughters and building a successful automotive repair business in Limerick.
You could often find Michael driving his Chevrolet Truck while listening to Johnny Cash, riding his Harley Davidson or cruising around Pickerel Pond where he lived for nearly 20 years. Michael was known for living life by his own rules and for having a bit of a rebellious spirit. Despite this, Michael had a strong Catholic faith and cherished time with his daughters. He will be remembered by his daughters for his amazing Christmas Lasagna, adventurous drives on rural back roads and for his infectious laugh.
In 2009, he embarked on a multi-year roadtrip where he explored the Western United States. His favorite sites included Joshua tree national park and sites along Route 66. He eventually settled for a short time in Amarillo, Texas where he passed away in his home. His family takes solace in knowing that his body and mind are at peace. We believe, like Johnny Cash, that ‘Ain’t no grave can hold his body down’. In honor of this, Michael will be cremated and enjoy one final adventure as his daughters drive him from Amarillo, Texas to his final resting place in Maine. A celebration of life will be held for him at St. Mathews Church in Limerick Maine on February 6th at 10 AM.
He is survived by his three daughters; Trisha Norton and her son Gideon of Gray; Michelle Norton and her son Orren of Windham; and Brittney Varpilah and her husband Nee-Alah and daughter Zinnah of Liberia, West Africa; his brother Frank Norton and wife Marie of Limerick; His sister Karen Norton Grant and her Husband Kurtis of Texas; and His sister Tina Norton. He was preceded in death by his father Boyce Norton and Mother Mary Joanne Cogill.
