Melvin Forrest Sears, 86 of Amarillo passed away June 3, 2013. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Perry Hunsaker and Rev. Steve Stephens officiating. Private family interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell. Melvin was born June 8, 1926 in Yuba City, California to Melvin Sr. and Blanche Kappler Sears. He married Eva Jean Sims on January 15, 1955 in Sacramento, California. Mel spent 2 years in the U.S. Army Air Corp, spending time in Germany and France. After returning home from the service, he spent 33 years with the US Bureau of Reclamation where he worked in Personnel. He was transferred to Amarillo from Boulder City, NV in 1972 and later became Regional Personnel Director. Mel was a member of High Plains Kiwanis Club for a number of years. He attended St. Paul United Methodist Church and a member of the Covenant Sunday School class. Mel liked playing in couples' bridge clubs with his wife, Jean. He also enjoyed working crossword puzzles in the evenings. Mel's favorite time, however, was time spent with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Mel is survived by his daughters, Margaret Graham and Carolyn Jorden and husband Glenn; three special grandchildren, Tyler Stephen Graham, Samantha Kate Jorden and Matthew Sears Jorden. The family suggest memorials be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Amarillo, Texas.
