Melba Jeannette Isaacs Snider, 82 of Amarillo passed away May 21, 2014. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Perry Hunsaker and Lynn Snider officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery East by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors.
Jeannee was born in Lubbock on February 23, 1932. She spent her childhood in Muleshoe and Waco. Jeannee graduated from Waco High School. She was married to Weldon L. Snider on November 18, 1949 and moved to Amarillo shortly thereafter. She focused her energy on being a wife and mother for a few years then went back to school earning an associate’s degree in Art from Amarillo College in 1966. She continued her studies and graduated with honors from West Texas State University in Canyon, TX with a degree in Art Education, studying art under Dr. Emilio Cabalerro. She also earned a minor in English from West Texas State. Jeannee was a docent at the Amarillo Art Center and won several awards for her artwork through the years. She also was a fine arts judge at the Tri State Fair for several years. She was active in her church (St. Paul United Methodist Church) where she and her husband Weldon were members for 60 years. Jeannee worked for Amarillo Independent School district for over 20 years and taught Art and English at both Fannin Junior High School and Austin Junior High School. She also served as the Cheerleader Sponsor, Yearbook Sponsor and and judged several UIL Speech competitions. She loved dogs, children, trips to the mountains and, most of all, people. She was known for her bright smile and generous spirit and appreciated life and her many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon L. Snider; Brother, Albert Hartman Isaacs, Jr.; father, Albert Hartman Isaacs, Sr; mother, Bonnie Afton Weatherby Isaacs Barron; step-father, Charles B. Barron. She is survived by her son, Lynn Snider and wife Brenda of Spring; daughters, Gaye Sougstad and husband David of Amarillo and Alane Simons and husband Doyle of Austin; grandchildren, Luke Snider of Houston, Jonna Sougstad of Austin, McCall Dwyer and husband Joe of Amarillo, Kelsey Simons and Kendall Simons both of Austin; great-grandchildren, Gage and Gavin Dwyer of Amarillo.We would like to extend special thanks and much love to Lisa Shanks and Evelyn Smith for the many hours of devotion and love they showed to our mother. Her life was enriched and made more beautiful by the time she spent with these wonderful ladies. In addition, we would like to thank the caring staff at Childers Place who treated our mother with grace, love and respect as she walked her journey of Alzheimer’s.
