Mary Sosa

Mary was born May 7,1948 in Roswell, New Mexico to Samuel and Josephina Valdez. Mary graduated from Goddard High School in 1966. Soon after graduation she attended and then graduated from beauty school. She married the love of her life, Miguel "Mike" Salmon Sosa on March 20th, 1971. Together they had one son, Eric Michael Sosa making them a complete family on January 3rd, 1974. Mary was an exceptional artist in Cosmetology, Culinary and the field of Fine Arts. She also won numerous awards including Golden Poet in 1991 and Best Chili in 2013. Her Chili Manana was a family favorite and never lasted to the next day. Mary had many talents. She created beautiful drawings and paintings that were inspired by her dreams that she gave to family and friends. One of her passions was teaching children the Fine Arts at Amarillo Independent School District and with various Day Care schools and Church Ministries. Her devotion to God and her love for everyone has guaranteed a place in heaven for her.

Mary is survived by her son Dr. Eric Michael Sosa; grandchildren, Michael, N’asia, Kris Sosa, and Andromeda Weatherman; great-grandchildren, Waydan, Epiphany, and Liliana Sosa; brother, Luciano Valdez and wife Carmen and a sister-in-law, Linda Valdez.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband; Miguel Salmon Sosa, passing in 2017; parents, Samuel and Josephina Valdez; sisters, Anita Lucero and husband Paul, Margaretta Valdez and Leonarda Lucero and husband Anselmo; brothers, Daniel Valdez and wife Juanita Jose Valdez.

Mary will be missed by both her family and friends.

Mary's Memorial Service will be held on June 15, 2024, 10 am at Power Church located at

1344 SE 10th Avenue, Amarillo,Texas 79102.
