She was born on February 14, 1931 in Amarillo, Texas to Frank A. Lucero and Mary Salazar Lucero. Mary was a 1949 graduate of Amarillo High School and attended Amarillo College. She married Alex Perez in 1950 and began a career as a Lab Technician with Associated Pathology and later joined the lab at Northwest Texas Hospital until she retired. In 1992 Mary and Alex relocated to Dallas, Texas to be closer to their sons and grandchildren. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and fabulous grandmother to Lauren, Nick, Alexis, McKenzie, Maya, Tony, and Valencia. In later years, she was able to enjoy her 7 great grandchildren who adored her. Mary always opened her door to family and friends and would offer homemade tortillas that were to die for. Her kitchen was the hangout for her boys and all their friends. She hosted many a post Caprock football game party when Alex, Mark, and Danny were in high school.
Mary is survived by sons: Alex Perez (Camille) and Mark Perez (Dianne), sisters Cecilia Tenorio and Jessie Coronado (Dave), brother Frank T. Lucero (Susan), 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Alex Perez; parents Frank and Mary Lucero; sons Alex Perez, Jr. and Danny Perez. Deceased siblings include Judy Tenorio, Shirley Ralston and Frank M. Lucero.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2:00PM in Amarillo at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home, 5400 S. Bell St.
