Mary "Helen" (Owens) Crawford went home with her Lord and Savior on April 10,2020. Helen was the beloved daughter of William Drannon Owens and Laura Lillian (Barnes) Owens. Helen married Murriel Don Crawford SR on February 11, 1955. Together, they had six beautiful children.
Helen was doted on by her grandparents and adoring aunts and uncles who helped to raise her. From them, she learned about her Chickasaw heritage and gained skills she used throughout her life. Helen was most famous for her cooking skills which she passed down to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen opened her home and heart to family and friends alike. In addition to her own six children, she often had nieces and nephews living in the home. Helen taught Sunday School, coached baseball, was Cub Scout Den Mother, and seemed to always feed the entire neighborhood.
After her children were grown, Helen worked for Dwight Cheek Trucking Company and traveled with Murriel as his co-pilot. Not one to back down from a challenge, Helen furthered her education in her 50's and became a Certified Dietary Manager for a chain of family owned nursing homes. She loved getting to know each resident, finding out what they liked to eat and making food just for them.
Helen helped as some of her children opened restaurants, sharing her secret recipes and love of seeing people leave her table happy and overstuffed. She always had a plate of fried biscuits for anyone that appeared the least bit hungry.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Murriel Don Crawford SR, and children; Vera Ann Crawford, Murriel Don Crawford JR, and Debra Dale (Crawford) Haynes. She was also greeted in heaven by her granddaughter, Cassie Walker.
Helen will be missed by her surviving family: Rusty Crawford and wife Kathy of Bonham, TX, Kathy (Crawford) Bozarth and husband Jody of Keller, TX and Ray Crawford and wife Elisa of Amarillo, TX, Dennis Crawford of Newkirk, OK and Lynn Bebout of Wynnewood, OK. She leaves behind several other nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Helen was incredibly proud of her 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren that will miss going to Grandma's to eat.
