Due to current government restrictions, a private family graveside service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2020. A memorial service for all who knew and loved Margaret will be held on June 6, 2020 at 3pm in Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Director's Pioneer Chapel.
Margaret was born on May 26, 1924 in Pasadena, California to John William and Anna Marie (Stephans) Steffens. When she was 5, the family relocated to Clayton, New Mexico where she would be raised and eventually graduate from Clayton High School in 1942. In her younger years, she worked for the Boeing Airplane Factory. In 1947, she took a job as a phone operator. On November 5, 1948 she married Clifford "Hap" Hanna, and the new family made their home in Texline, Texas.
She worked many odd jobs including John Burns Hardware Store, and later, she and Hap would start Humble Station. Prior to moving to Amarillo in 1995, she was a waitress and cook for Cafas for several years.
She met Arthur Lee Ashley in 2001 and they wed on November 4 of that same year. She was a very loving person who always gave you a helping hand up, hug, and a kiss. She was loved by all that were blessed to know her.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents and husbands Clifford in 1972 and Arthur in 2018. Those left to cherish her memory are sons John Hanna and wife Jo Anne of Canyon and Mark Ashley and wife Jeannie of Lubbock; daughters Gayle Morris of Amarillo, Darla Brown and husband Don of Borger, and Carol Chambers of Amarillo. She also leaves behind her 13 beloved grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren as well as many other loving family and dear friends.
