Born June 12 1922 at home outside Bryce, Hall County, Texas to Fred and Mary Lela Ascraft Adkins.
Married Macie Alene Lawrence December 12 1941. Served in the U.S. Coast Guard from October 1942-December 1945 during World War II. Worked 35 years for Phillips Petroleum Company in Borger TX, Stavanger Norway, Old Ocean Texas. Traveled extensively in Europe while working in Norway, and in the US and Canada after retiring. . He served as a Deacon and in other capacities at Buena Vista Baptist Church, Borger, TX; Fritch Southern Baptist Church, Fritch TX; North Sea Baptist Church, Stavenger Norway (He and his wife Macie worked with a committee of like-minded Americans there to get permission from the Norwegian government, bring in a missionary and start the church, which is still thriving.); First Baptist Church in West Columbia TX; and Coulter Road Baptist Church in Amarillo TX. Luther was a lifelong amateur radio operator, call sign W5PSZ. While in Fritch, Luther also served on the volunteer fire and ambulance service, and as a storm watcher for the weather service in Amarillo. He was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his daughter; Kay Harris of Amarillo, two sons; Terry Adkins of Granbury Texas wife Doris Jean West, and Ron Adkins of Garland Texas wife Sonya Leedy, 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Luther is preceded in death by his parents; Fred Adkins 11-14-1962, Mary Lela Adkins 8-18-1983, one sister; Frances Odessa Adkins Holland 5-17-2017, 4 brothers; Melvin Franklin 5-23-1937, Tillou Lewis 1-4-2006, Odis Murry 9-25-1985, and Carl George 5-11-1964.
