Lou Ethel was born in Lubbock, Texas on April 8, 1931 to Hubert and Jo Knight. She attended Amarillo High School and Amarillo College. She met her husband, Kerm Albertson in 1950 and they were married less than a year later. They went on to have four daughters who adored their mother and father and caught their deep love for Jesus.
Lou Ethel was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. She was known for many wonderful things; full of fun, advice, wisdom, honesty, compassion and joy, she lived and loved out of the confidence coming from who she was in Christ. This played itself out in many ways. Lou Ethel and Kerm taught a newlywed class at First Baptist Church for 40 years. While Kerm was a tremendous teacher, she was the heart of the class. Lou Ethel loved each one so beautifully reflecting the heart of Jesus. She not only loved sharing the study of God’s word in these classes, but her life as well (1 Thess. 2:8). It did not stop there. Lou Ethel and Kerm also were a part of the initial group that brought Young Life Ministries to Amarillo students. This ministry builds bridges of authentic relationships in the hopes to introduce students to Jesus. In a surprise to everyone, she started a bridal and formal rental business out of her home. Her main purpose of this business was to help young women and to share about an even greater love, which was the love of Jesus. As you can see already, Lou Ethel lived for so much more than herself. She was always honest and sacrificial while at the same time lighting up the room with her infectious joy and fun. She looked for ways to care and serve those around her. Lou Ethel was always ready to cook a hamburger and give advice, no matter what time of day for her “Ethel-otie” guys. A group committed to her and greatly influenced by her.
She was considered a second mother to many, a friend. a wise counselor. A good and faithful servant of Christ. She will be so greatly missed.
Lou Ethel is survived by her much loved family, daughter Jan and husband Steve Rayburn with sons Jeff and Blaine of Plano, Texas, Kris and husband Jeff Jones with daughters Emery, Jenny, Becca and 8 grandchildren of Knoxville, Tennessee, Jeri and Murray Gossett of Amarillo Texas and their sons and daughters Brant, Hunter, Joy, Luke, Blair from all over the place and 5 grandchildren, Lori and Roger Stafford of Healy, Alaska and their sons and daughters Bethany, Maddison, Brooke, Caleb and Bradon.
