LaVaughn Hampton Back, 86 of Amarillo passed away November 17, 2014. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday November 20, 2014 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Pastor Kyle Pope of Olsen Park Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. LaVaughn was born April 2, 1928 in Treece, Kansas to George and Edith Hampton. She graduated from Borger High School in 1946. She was a LVN and worked at Dumas Memorial Hospital in Dumas, Texas. She married Charles Carter in 1949 in Borger and they were married for 17 years. In 1970 LaVaughn married Wayne Back in Dumas and they were married for 30 years. LaVaughn’s family was number one in her life right behind her Lord. She was a devoted member of Olsen Park Church of Christ for many years. She enjoyed playing games with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh. LaVaughn was a true caregiver who cared for whomever was in need. She loved being with all of them and especially loved keeping up with everyone she loved on Facebook. LaVaughn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother and she will be greatly missed. LaVaughn was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Carter in 1967 and Wayne Back in 2000; her parents; brothers, Alferd and Gus Hampton and sister, Georgia Womack. She is survived by her son, Lee Carter and wife Sharon of Amarillo; daughter, Debbie Pennington of Amarillo; brother, Gene Sewell and wife Rita of Amarillo; grandchildren, Wade Pennington of Amarillo, Kristi Weil and husband Clint of Arlington, Texas and Stacie Mathis and husband Josh of Lubbock; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Joey, Ryan, and Blair Pennington and Carter Weil; sister-in-law, Barbara Hampton of Amarillo; also by numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends this evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
