Mr. Sheets will lie in state on Sunday, October 06, 2019 from 12pm to 5pm in the Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Director’s Pioneer Chapel, located at 5400 Bell Avenue in Amarillo. A celebration of Keith’s life will be held on Monday, October 07, 2019 at 10am in the Comanche Trail Church of Christ, located at 2700 SE 34th in Amarillo with David Pounds presiding. A graveside service will follow at 2pm in the Texline Cemetery in Texline, Texas.
Keith was born in Clayton, New Mexico on April 8, 1947 to Wesley and Elsie(Cornelsen) Sheets. The oldest of four children, Keith entered the Navy and served 22 years, from 1966 to 1988, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer, 4th Class. He was at the forefront of satellite communications across the globe. His tours included Vietnam, Rhota Spain, and various ship-based battle groups until his retirement in Washington D.C. An avid sportsman, he loved his family and always exercised his creativity and service in woodworking and outdoor grilling. He was very active and beloved with the Comanche Trail Church of Christ.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Elsie, and sister Janyce Wood. Those left to cherish his memory are his spouse Debra J. Sheets, sons Brent Sheets and Keith “JR” Sheets Jr., daughter Kelli Bigham; grandchildren Josh, Caleb, Samantha, Skyler, Gideon, Naomi, Rachel, and Simon, and great grandchildren Sophia, and Rylie Jane. He also leaves behind his sisters Janyt May, and Kathleen Sheets; as well as many beloved family and dear friends.
